During the last two decades, the waterfront redesign in many European cities has offered interesting laboratories to improve the quality of urban life. In Milanese case, the presence of aquatic elements – buried during the Fascist period, damaged and drained away during the boom years – is progressively and contradictorily rediscovered during the Nineties.
The workshop reflects on the design of a new “artificial water” scenario for the city, considering the aquatic element both as a common good – of which we have to guarantee the survival and the reproducibility – and as an opportunity to imagine new public space conditions. More precisely the design concentrate on the “Via d’Acqua”, the ambitious project for the Expo2015 that would connect the city centre to the exhibition site.

Three topics have been selected:
Water/moving: Via d’Acqua intended as a new urban infrastructure, an enduring collective equipment for the whole city;
Water/housing: Via d’Acqua intended as a support for experimenting new residential solutions;
Water/therapy: Via d’Acqua intended as a purifying agent for lands contaminated by industrial activities.
