The Master in Urban Management and Architectural Design is aimed at professionals wishing to develop and update their skills. It is meant to replace old methods that are no longer applicable to the urban complexity by proposing new responses for the current and future scenarios and enabling professionals to deal with territorial transformations, handle conflicts in a creative way and provide unusual design solutions.The Master starts with a week for orientation and team building, whose aim is to organize skills, set off the different backgrounds and share the knowledge of all; during the first week of the Master and during the whole Academic year, tours of the most important construction sites of Milan areorganized for the students. Then, a series of lectures and workshops follows. This system allows students to update the notions they acquired in the different degree courses, by adopting an organic approach to the territory. It provides a vision in which city planning, design skill, social and anthropological analysis, marketing and communication tools can converge, to create a new professional identity, whose aim is to depict again the functions and the appearance of the urban space.
The main part of the Master focuses on the following topics:
Policies: the ability to consider the territory as a complex system made up of policies, laws, economy and finance;
Vision: he ability to analyse important events for the urban territory as well as the tools needed to project such analyses into the future;
Architectural Link: the ability to forge and shape new design ideas throughout a relationship with new cultural and interdisciplinary aspects that have become fundamental for the creation and the development;
Communication and Marketing for the Territory: communication and marketing as guiding topics, as the backbone of the project, in order to collect resources and obtain consensus;
Urban Management: the management and the extended planning of the territory and of its functions;
Architectural Design: the design and the creation of the elements that make up the territory
The Master deals with:
- design quality, in terms of town planning and building trade;
- coordination strategies for the interventions of the decisional actors, with the creation of operative and managerial structures based on innovative organizational patterns;
- the social quality of the planning proposals, based on planning procedures and on innovative techniques regarding the activation, guidance and listening of participation;
- optimization of the financial resources, both public and private, to obtain the operators' interest;
- the use of the most adeguate tools to create and communicate projects
The Master Course is based on learning through experience. Therefore, students will be guided in each course phase and encouraged to "learn by doing".
