The workshop reflects on the remaining portions of urban woods that form an irregular ring along the mark of the ancient Spanish Walls of Milan. In spite of their strategic location, these nature filaments have been ignored by the most recent episodes of environmental planning, which curtly perceive them as “consolidated city”.

The ground design of what we could name “Milan implicit ring” can be upgraded and articulated according to three main levels:
- A new car parking and accessibility plan for the city centre: the green ring as a filter integrated with the congestion charge policy and as the opportunity for re-organising – by concentrating and clearing – the invasive and banal car parking.
- An enriched urban ground: a recovered connective tissue that transforms the city ground level and includes spaces for leisure, road extensions for bars and commercial activities, protected flows for soft mobility, etc.
- A vast nature project, intended as an environmental machine: a device that improves the quality of the congested daily life in the compact city and in its contiguous areas, by increasing the density and articulating the vegetation masses, providing atmosphere purification, dust reduction, solar and acoustic regulation.
