Nowadays urban areas are the stage for one of the most important changes in human evolution. For the first time in history, step by step, in a very imperceptible way, the urban population will exceed the rural one, especially in the poorest areas of the world. The cities are becoming the workshop for this epoch-making changes, which are the result of trends and thrusts that will not decrease in this new century. These will be the places where lots of problems will arise, but also where solutions can be found. The analysis of such a urban phenomenon and its transformations represents one of the most important intellectual challenges. Urban transformation processes and the way economic, human, social and environmental resources are used call for more and more complex competences and a cooperation between different actors which is not easily practicable nowadays.
The Master considers the territory as a new space for the objects, flows and imagination. This involves getting rid of the constraints of the past and finding new design stimuli that can be applied to these changing conditions giving rise to new forms, the aspiration to well-being and the search for dignity and freedom. The Master represents an opportunity to update one's own professional skills in terms of vision and design ability. It is meant to establish an unusual relationship between the architectural functions and the quality of the territory. The Master's objective is to enable professionals to manage complex urban, architectural and territorial issues, by using innovative analysis tools and design methods on different levels. The final goal is to provide an adequate training to professionals playing a role in decision making processes concerning urban transformation and development.
